When you are around the people that love and support you, it better motivates you and makes you believe in yourself. Teens in a loving, supportive, and positive environment are more likely to have a higher self-esteem than teens who are not in a loving, supportive, and positive environment. If you are in an environment where there is no one home when you wake up, get home from school, not there for dinner, or not home when you are going to bed, then you are more likely to experience emotional distress. While we cannot control what kind of families we are born into, does not mean that when we have the “people closest to us” not around us that we cannot be motivated. It is good to find someone that we can trust in our lives, and know that we are going to be able to count on them in any kind of circumstances--good or bad.
George Washington University’s research showed that in order for students to better and be encouraged at school, students must find someone or something to motivate them to do better and try harder in school. Since students are so disengaged, having higher academic standards and very important standardized testing will not do anything because they are not motivated. +40% students are disengaged, showing that the lack of motivation is a real problem, and we need to do something about it. Students who are more motivated and engaged in school, usually are the ones who succeed and have a better understanding of the concepts. On a personal note, I obey this piece of advice like its the law! As a advisor, blogger, and all round motivated person, I only surround myself with the positive and honest energy that comes from hanging out with people that care about me. There is no room for negative energy in my life and only a true friend will wish for your success. This reminds me of another famous quote, but that is for another day!
