By doing an act that you would not necessarily believe would be impactful, might be to someone who was in need. You shouldn’t go through life trying to always impact someone because life doesn’t work like that. You have to be true to who you are in order for someone to be impacted.
You hear stories all of the time about someone doing some sort of activity, and falling in love with it. Personally, I know a handful of people who have done community service related activities, and after just one experience they were so impacted that they decided that it was what they were going to study in college, and then later make a career out of it. When you know someone who needs a change in their life but they aren’t motivated, that is when it’s a good time for you to come in and help impact a change in their life. Sometimes you don’t know where to start, but luckily I have found some tips to help start you off:
Something that was not mentioned in link was trust. I believe that without trust you won’t be able to help at all. Without trust they won’t want to listen to what you have to say. By doing everything above will help build the trust up between the two of you. Don’t get down on yourself if the person doesn’t respond the way you want them to because it might take some time, before you are able to crack their shell. If they push you away, make sure to not take it personally because it might just mean that they aren’t ready for the help that you are trying to give to them.
By just doing a small act can influence someone enough to make a change in their lives. I know that you may think that I am young, but I am old enough to have seen a few kids grow up. Perhaps the most fitting example of this quote is with regards to cousin Luke. As a toddler, I helped Luke learn to draw and color between the lines. While I did this for his parent's sake at first, I became increasingly interested in his progress. Together, we bonded over this hobby and we would both draw together and then exchange pictures. Suddenly, Luke's hobby exploded into a real talent and has sparked a love of art that continues to this day. I would have never imagined ever having this sort of influence on anyone, yet the act of helping a toddler changed a boy's life forever. In fact, this reminds me of a famous quote, but that is for another day!

- Have someone do favor for you (i.e. smile).
- Ask for more than you want, and then scale back later on.
- Use a person’s name to show that they matter, to show that you care, and you are trying to help them.
- Try and point out some of their strengths.
- Mirror their behavior to validate to them that they need a change.
- Even if the person is tired, ask them for a favor.
- Offer them something that they can’t refuse, and then work up from there.
- Don’t point out every flaw or something that they do incorrect, make sure to let them make the mistake, and then let them ask for your help.
- Paraphrase and repeat what they said, to show that you are listening.
- Nodding shows that you are listening, and it makes it easier for the other person to ask you for a favor or help.
